The Central Computing Facility at Prasanthi Nilayam initially inaugurated in 1987 by the revered Chancellor has been upgraded to a State-of-the-art Computer Centre under the UGC scheme of Establishing/Upgradation of Computer Centres as part of the Xth Plan.

The mission of this center is to equip our students with the necessary Information Technology proficiency to further their academic skills.

The objectives of the center are as follows:

1. Training in Latest Computer Software Applications
2. Training in Multimedia Communication Skills
3. Training in Computer Based Problem Solving
4. Training in Personal Productivity Enhancement Tools
5. Computer Aided Instruction for relevant Courses
6. Developing expertise in setting up and using Computation Intensive Applications
7. Assisting Research Work / Projects / Dissertations
8. Authoring Multimedia E-content as per UGC Initiative
9. Promoting E-learning
10. Providing access to Electronic Information
11. Automating Administrative Processes
12. Developing Public Utility Software

With a view to achieving the above objectives, the Computer Centre has now been revamped and upgraded with a seating capacity of 60 workstations.

The Hardware Infrastructure consists of the following:

• 7 Severs that include 3 Xeon Windows Servers, 1 Xeon Linux Server, 1 P-IV Windows Server and 2 P-IV Linux Servers. The Servers are being used for Domain Controller, Group Ware Applications, File Backups, Proxy Serving and WAN Routing.
• The Computer Centre houses 21 Pentium D Systems, 26 P-IV Systems, 4 P-III Systems, and 3 PC Celerons.
• The Centre is networked on Gigabit Ethernet architecture with a structured cabling backbone of 94 I/O outlets. The Centre is equipped with a 256 KBPS BBVSAT Shared Bandwidth through UGC Infonet and also houses a High Speed Fibre Optic Internet facility through a dedicated lease line.
• One 10KVA, One 7.5 KVA, three 6 KVA and one 2 KVA UPS units ensure adequate backup and an uninterrupted power supply.
• The Centre is uniquely equipped with a hybrid cooling facility. During the Winter and Monsoon, the Centre is cooled by a natural air cooling facility consisting of eight powerful exhaust fans creating an South-North air current, drawn through well designed air-filters. During Summer, conventional cooling is enabled through 9.5 Tonnes of Air-conditioning.

The Centre has adopted a four-tier approach to Computer training.

1. At Tier-I we have training in Word Processing, Spreadsheet Software, and Presentation Software.
2. At Tier-II we have training in Web Designing Software and Programming Languages – C, C++, Visual Basic, Java.
3. Tier-III consists of training in Utility / Application Packages such as Access, Project, Oracle, SPSS, GPSS, TORA, Eviews, MATLAB, TALLY, EX, etc.
4. Finally, Tier-IV focuses on Application Specific Advanced Packages like Data Mining, Oracle eBusiness Suite, GIS, Drug Modeling, Molecular Modeling, Hyperchem7, Guassian98, LabView, etc.
