COURAGE, CONFIDENCE AND CONCENTRATION COME TO THE FORE

The inaugural function of the Annual Sports and Cultural Meet of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning is held every year in Hill View Stadium, Prasanthi Nilayam on the 11th January. The students of all Sathya Sai educational institutions take part in it and present a rare combination of courage, concentration and skill. Performing their sports events with exemplary unity, harmony and team work, the students showcase how sports and cultural events could foster these virtues in students and society.

The sprawling Hill View Stadium, the venue of this mega event, is aesthetically done up for this display. The Revered Chancellor of the Deemed University, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is offered welcome by the Anantapur Campus brass band when He enters the stadium from its northern side. Bhagawan is then led to the Santhi Vedika in a grand procession. Besides the Anantapur Campus band, the brass band of the Prasanthi Nilayam Campus, slow marching squad carrying colourful flags and motorbike escort of students of the three campuses of the university form part of the Revered Chancellor’s procession. On His arrival at Santhi Vedika, the slow marching squad offer a special salute to Him by making a canopy of flags. The Vice Chancellor and other senior staff members of the Deemed Uuniversity welcome Him by offering bouquets and roses. Bhagawan lights the sacred lamp at Santhi Vedika to ceremoniously inaugurate the Sports Meet.

Impressive March Past

The first item of the programme is March Past by the students of all Sathya Sai educational institutions which included Sri Sathya Sai Primary and Higher Secondary schools at Prasanthi Nilayam and the three campuses of the university, namely, Brindavan, Anantapur and Prasanthi Nilayam. Brightly attired contingents of these institutions come in front of Santhi Vedika and offer respectful salutes to their Revered Chancellor. The brass band of the Prasanthi Nilayam Campus provide the marching tunes to this most impressive and elegant March Past.

Before the commencement of the sports events, Bhagawan will hoist the university flag, release white pigeons and balloons and lights the sports torch. The torch thereafter is carried by a mascot to the top of the hill where it lights the Sports Urn. Meanwhile, the customary oath is administered to the participants of the sports events.
